To highlight advancements in genomic research, Génome Québec and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – secteur Nature et technologies (FRQ) have partnered to launch the Genomics Integration (GI) Program – Agriculture and Biofood, Forestry and Environment.
This program provides grants ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 to support partnerships aimed at integrating genomics in both public and private sectors. The funds are intended for projects that demonstrate proof of concept for the development of tools, products, services or processes involving genomics or any other omics science. Additionally, these funds will facilitate the transfer of project results towards implementation or commercialization, or to secure subsequent funding.
ELIGIBILITY
- Teams must be formed by at least:
- One academic researcher affiliated to a research institute in Quebec (university, CCTT or not-for-profit with an explicit mandate research). Each researcher may only submit one application as an academic project leader per program cycle.
- One non-academic organization (the user) responsible for implementing or commercializing the results, including: private companies, industrial consortiums, not-for-profit organizations, government agencies, etc.
- All non-academic organizations are eligible, regardless of size. However, they must demonstrate their capacity to implement or commercialize the project results.
- Projects may be related to agriculture, biofood, forestry, environment, fisheries, energy, mining, or any other related field, excluding human health.
- Projects must incorporate at least one aspect derived from “omic” technologies (genomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, metagenomics, nutrigenomics, pharmacogenomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, bioinformatics, etc.).
- Projects must address a significant need for the non-academic partner.
- Applicants must obtain co-funding to at least match Génome Québec funds (1:1), from sources other than the Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie du Québec (MEIE). This could include support from commercial partners, foundations, universities, government departments or agencies, large corporations, individuals, etc. (letters of support to be included).
In-kind contributions are allowed if they are in Quebec.
