Frédéric Pitre is a plant biochemist who studies the response of plants to their environment. He is currently a researcher at the Institut de recherche en biologie végétale (IRBV) and adjunct professor of biology at the Université de Montréal.

His research uses physiology, genomics and metabolomics to optimize plant end-uses for environmental applications such as: phytoremediation, wastewater treatment, biodegradation of emerging contaminants and the production of biofuels and bioproducts of environment and economic interest. Mr Pitre has published in top academic journals and presented extensively at conferences in Canada and internationally. He has been appointed to several expert committees, including NSERC, FRQNT and Ville de Paris. His current team includes a dozen post-graduate students and interns collectively contributing to our understanding of how nature can be harnessed to solve anthropogenic environmental problems.
