Valérie Langlois,PhD, is a professor at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique. She holds a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Ecotoxicogenomics and Endocrine Disruption, she is the Founding Director of the International Intersectoral Center for Endocrine Disruptor Analysis (ICEDA) inaugurated in November 2020, and she is the Vice-president of the North American Society for Comparative Endocrinology (NASCE). She recently was the recipient of the Prix Relève scientifique from the Prix du Québec (2020), the Université du Québec (2019), and NASCE Gorbman-Bern Young Investigator Award (2017).

She has forged a dynamic research program investigating the impact of human activities, in particular the effects of pollution on ecosystem health. Using molecular and cellular biological approaches, she investigates the mechanisms of action of environmental contaminants in vertebrates, with a focus on non-mammalian species. Her focus has been on the steroid 5-reductases to elucidate their role in non-mammal species and their potential modulation by endocrine disrupting chemicals.

Valérie Langlois uses environmental DNA (eDNA) tools to help her addresses the impact of pollution and land use on biodiversity loss. She recently published a significant eDNA perspectives paper with Helbing highlighting the current research gaps for qPCR-based eDNA detection. Their work represents the foundation of the iTrackDNA project and highlights the effective relationship between the two co-shared leads. She brings more than 15 years of experience in qPCR methodology development and environmental and contaminant assessment with over 200 conference presentations and more than 70 research papers.

She is a regular member of the FRQNT funded Québec’s Ecotoxicologists’ Network (EcotoQ) and the Québec’s Aquatic Resources Network (RAQ) and of the NSERC funded LEaders in wAter anD watERshed Sustainability (CREATE-LEADERS) and the Advanced Technological Training network on the risk and remediation of Pollution in URban Environments.
