Sector: Agriculture and bioculture

In plant biology, Arabidopsis thaliana has become the model plant of choice. Its complete gene sequence has been mapped and catalogued. The next step is to assign specific roles or functions to each of the genes.

Employing innovative techniques, including the use of robotic and new imaging technology, this project allows researchers to examine thousands of genes at a time and look for novel and unusual patterns. This will help identify new gene functions and facilitate the improvement of Canadian crop plants.

This project involves a collaboration between the University of Toronto and Performance Plants Inc., an Ontario biotechnology company.
