Dr. Denis-Claude Roy is the Director of the Cellular Therapy Laboratory and the Scientific Director of the Centre de recherche Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, as well as a Full Professor at the Université de Montréal and an Adjunct professor at McGill University. Dr. Roy received his MD from the Université de Montréal and held a postdoctoral fellowship in tumor immunology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at Harvard University. In 1990, Dr. Roy joined the Division of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont as Director of the Cell Therapy Laboratory and Autologous Transplantation Program. Dr. Roy was a member of the Hematology Training Program at the Université de Montréal and served on the Royal College Examination Board-Hematology for numerous years.
His research interests focus on the immunobiology of stem cell transplantation, and particularly on the treatment of stem cell grafts to eliminate risks of graft rejection and optimize their anti-cancer activity. He has published some 100 original articles and book chapters in prestigious journals and has trained more than fifty-five students, MSc, PhD and post-docs. He has been on numerous scientific review panels, including the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS), the Cancer Research Society, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
He currently sits on the Canadian Institutes for Health Research scientific review panel. Dr. Roy is the Theme Leader of the Clinical Applications Arm of the Canadian Stem Cell Network, co-Director of the ThéCell FRQS Network and former board member of the Canadian Blood and Marrow Tranplant Group and Executive Committee of the National Cancer Institute of Canada-CTG-Hematology.
