Although Québec has a territory favourable to the development of this industry, it does not produce enough fish to meet demand. Fish farming, however, is gaining ground in Québec, particularly with the arrival of companies such as Aquaboreal. The company plans to set up the first land-based salmon farm, aiming for a production of 10,000 tonnes per year by 2028. To support the growth of this industry and introduce sustainable innovations, Merinov will conduct a study to evaluate the performance of farmed Québec salmon and landlocked salmon. Using advanced technologies, such as transcriptomics and lipidomics, our team will attempt to identify the best strains for tank farming. This will involve testing different feeds—with low or high plant content—on the two strains to then study the digestibility of the feeds, as well as their impact on reproduction and on the fry. This study is part of a research program aimed at stimulating the salmon farming industry, reducing operating costs for companies, developing Québec genetic lines and ensuring a local supply of Atlantic salmon.

["post-30780","financed-project","type-financed-project","status-publish","hentry
["GET
